24 - Needed to Make Some Repairs That We Just Discovered

We were pretty much on the verge of heading north when we realized our truck cab air conditioning had stopped working. We HAD to fix that. It's way to hot to drive without AC. We took her to Boyd's and he hooked us up. He recharged with freon and fixed the small leak. We're blowing cold again. Yay.

Then, we were finally preparing to leave again, Adam discovered a huge crack in the fresh water pipe where you add fresh water to your tanks. Next morning, he bought a piece of hose and replaced the cracked piece. Then, he filled the water tank again and pressurized the system by turning on the pump and checking out the faucets. He found a couple of leaks!!! Apparently, we have polybutylene pipes. A quick Google search showed us that they, well, weren't the best choice. Polybutylene is no longer available. A little research and we found a different plastic pipe called PEX and a company called SharkBite makes pieces that are designed to fit both types of pipe. Adam bought a bunch of Sharkbite connectors, crimpers and hose.
Adam is working on the water system now as I write this, trying to replace the leaky connections and also replace connections with potential leaks.
I guess it's easier to do this stuff here at home than out on the side of a road somewhere.

Below is a pin for the drain valve above. You pull the metal ring up (there are 2, side by side, one for hot water and one for cold) and it opens a valve below to allow water to drain out and through the floor so that you can completely drain the system of water to winterize. The pin in Adam's hand below was not seating properly and was leaking. Adam managed to find a new o ring to fit. Fingers crossed...

Adam has replaced a number of connections and piping. Hopefully, he put an end to the leaks as well as to a few potential leaks.
