Memorial Day Weekend in NE Florida, May 2021

We made reservations for Memorial Day weekend to stay at Huguenot Memorial Park. It's in the very far northeastern part of the state where the St John's river meets the Atlantic Ocean.

By booking way in advance, we were able to reserve one of the coveted "private beach" spots. We had our own little slice of beach on the St John's river.

We missed the ferry by 5 mins! and had to drive all the way around :-( We got there just before it got dark. Beautiful evening with a nice breeze to keep the bugs away. The Atlantic Beach, still within Huguenot Memorial Park, is VERY popular, especially for Memorial Day. It's a drive-on beach and people started lining up early in the morning to get in. We know because we left the park pretty early to go for our Horseback ride on the beach! We reserved it well in advance, about a month or so. Adam hadn't really been on a horse before. I hadn't been on a horse in 30 years?

The sunrise on the drive to meet the horses was gorgeous!

We met the horses in Fernandina Beach, about 20 mins north of us.

What an amazing way to start the day!!
I knew I'd be sore, boy was I right!!! Adam and I both really enjoyed our ride. Adam is even interested in pursuing riding lessons!

We headed back to our RV (we brought Adam's car with us on our trip.)

Back at our campsite, watching the big ships pass

We took a little drive over to the Atlantic Beach, within our park

Off to bed early for another early start. We had also made kayak reservations for the next morning last week. We met the kayak people, Amelia Kayak, at a nearby boat launch the next morning.

We had a fantastic "Eco Tour" that went with the tide. We never had to paddle against the current.

Then, they gave us a ride back to Adam's car and a short trip back to the campground. Adam had managed to book a sunset horseback ride on the beach again. There was only one spot and I was WAY too sore. We drove up to Fernandina again.

Adam had a wonderful time!

And back to our campsite.

The next morning we got up and took the RV over to dump our tanks. There is a dump station at the park, luckily. We somehow managed to get there before everyone else. No line, despite how crowded the park was. A line formed as we were there though.

Perfect timing to catch the St John's River Ferry.

I drove the RV, Adam was in his own car

We pre-searched for a DIY car wash on our route home. We thoroughly rinsed the RV and Adam's car. Then, we headed home. A really nice trip :-)
