54 - Carmacks, YT to Whitehorse, YT, and Takhini Hot Springs

Short driving day today.
You can always find us in real-time with Garmin
We didn't leave the campground at Carmacks Hotel until 3pm. We were so busy cleaning up our dusty RV. We removed the drawers and contents of the floor level cabinets. One by one, we wiped and brushed everything down to get the dust off. The work we did cleaning last night when we arrived was a big help. We finally got the interior dirt to an acceptable level. However, anyone coming aboard may think, "hmm, they really need to clean."

These beetle guys with long antennae were everywhere. Worst part is, they fly. They don't seem to bite though... so far anyway. One landed on my lip/nose. AHHH!

In the car and on to Takhini Hot Springs, only 2 hours south.
A look at our GPS and you can see that we have driven 7543 miles in the past couple of weeks with 189 hours of drive time.

You can see it's still hot with VERY low humidity

Takhini Hot Springs. We were kinda hoping there was a "not - so -hot" spring pool. It's pretty warm today. As English speakers, we were definitely in the minority. German was the most popular language at the springs.
They say they drain these naturally fed spring pools and "sanitize" them every night. So they say...
It seemed very clean.
It was very nice and relaxing.

Then it was a short drive to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. The Yukon River flows right through the town and there's a beautiful walking/biking path along most of it's length. Whitehorse is the "metropolitan" hub of the Canadian northwest. You can pretty much find everything you need here.

They have museums, restaurants, car repair, lots of stores and it's a pretty cool town overall.
Probably the most extraordinary thing here is the Walmart parking lot. As you may know, many Walmarts allow free overnight parking for RV's and tractor trailers. This Walmart definitely has more rv's parked in it's parking lot than it does regular customer's cars. It's like a huge RV show. Every make and model and country and region are represented here. I guess July is the high season for tourism here.

If you park close to the Canadian Tire like we did, you can pick up their free wifi :-)

It got dark last night! around 11pm or midnight, the sun disappeared and we saw the moon come out. I saw the moon, Adam was fast asleep.
