Our ferry experience was not quite as good on our return trip. When the ferry company changed our reservation date due to the bad weather, they did NOT give us a room like our original reservation. We did not have a room at all! I did not realize this until we were actually in line for the ferry and could not easily get out of line to leave. Besides, we were anxious to get south.
So we boarded the crowded ferry. No berth for us. We did bring pillows and blankets, luckily. The marine forecast called for gale conditions with winds 35 knots, diminishing as the night wore on. This, of course, is less than ideal. We did find a couple of seats together, and ended up on the carpeted floor along with most of the other passengers. It was a rough crossing, even according to the staff on the ferry. According to my watch, I only got 1.5 hours of sleep. The good thing was that the storm did diminish and the seas were fairly calm by the time we reached Sydney.
Our seats for the crossing. We ended up sleeping on the floor with everyone else.
We land in Sydney and are on the road by 7:30am
Post-ferry doggie pit stop
And into the USA in Calais, ME
Customs was easy peasy, we were through in a few minutes.
We had researched an open restaurant that served lobster rolls. Ceasers, yes, that is spelled correctly. Excellent!!
A quiet night. So peaceful and comfortable compared to our ferry night.
We woke up early, we didn't realize how early! We thought it was 6am, but it was actually 5am. There's a time change at the Canadian border, just across the river from us. I guess our phones didn't pick it up because we were so close.
We went in search of coffee and found a Tim Horton's a couple of miles away. I thought they were only in Canada.
and back on the road...
We stopped for breakfast in Brewer, ME, around 8am. Adam got the wild blue berry pancakes, they looked amazing!!
Temps have been SO nice and cool!
More later....
