Grand Canyon National Park

 Well we made it!

This was our route:

We managed to get our Winnebago aligned in Albuquerque and headed straight from there to Williams, AZ. The scenery was stunning, but it got dark and we were not able to see the landscape.

We pulled into Williams late, 11pm, at the Railside RV campground. Plugged in our electric, turned on our little ceramic space heater, unfolded our huge king bed and went right to sleep. I woke up briefly at around 6am:
69F inside, 35F outside

Around 9am, we drove into the Route 66 town of Williams. Cute little town:
You can still see snow on the mountain at the edge of town

Liam Neeson and Sheila Weela sunned themselves while we waited for our breakfast

Back again to our campsite to top off our water and propane

And we're off to the Grand Canyon. I was thinking, back in the day, if we were travelling by covered wagon and not knowing what to expect ahead. The Grand Canyon would have really thrown off your wagon train. I mean, it would really throw a wrench into your travel plans.

This was our view about 30 minutes before we arrived:

In your covered wagon, you'd be like, "ok, lets just stay to the left of that mountain ahead."
Meanwhile, you get closer to the canyon's edge. You'd get right up to it and realize there's no way you're crossing it. Going around will take weeks. Bummer!
I guess I thought we would have to drive up some mountains or something. Nope. Pretty flat.

We knew the canyon was there.

We finally made it.
As we've been told, the photos we have seen of it in the past do not do it justice. Amazing, breathtaking, extraordinary and every other superlative you can think of. I'll post a few photos tomorrow.
These Elk (?) where grazing on the side of the road as neared the entrance to the park

5 lanes of cars waiting to get into the park

When we got to the entrance kiosk, the ranger saw Adam's Veterans ID. Veterans get into all national parks for FREE! Pretty cool! He gave Adam a card specifically that allows him this privilege at any National Park.
