We Moved to a New Campsite, Still Within Grand Canyon NP

Yesterday, Adam got all of his gear together to take a hike down Bright Angel Trail into the canyon.

The trail is pretty narrow with a drop-off of a few thousand feet on the right

He only got a few hundred yards down into the canyon when other hikers told him not to proceed without crampons because of the ice on the trail. Adam doesn't have any. Oh well, he turned around and walked back.

We headed over to the Geology Museum within the Grand Canyon National Park. Very interesting!

Apparently, there were many interactive exhibits that were covered in black plastic and were not allowed to be used -Covid precautions. As far as Covid goes, we've felt very safe here. A lot of the stuff is closed to visitors right now because of Covid-19. Everyone is social distancing and wearing masks.

From the Geology Museum, we walked on the "Trail of Time." A nice walk along the rim of the canyon.

Lots of signage explaining the formation of the Grand Canyon etc, very interesting.

We saw that the forecast was for a much colder spell and snow...  highs only in the 40's.

Last night, we started to get a taste of the cold as it went down to the teens. So our little propane heater is fantastic. However, we were running out of propane bottles to fuel it. Turns out, there are none to be found within a 2 hour radius. With these temps and snow forecast, we weren't willing to go without heat.

This was our thermometer this morning. 34F INSIDE (!) and 20F outside,
AFTER the sun had come up.

We stayed warm under the thick duvet. BUT, when Adam got up to use the toilet, he could see his breath! Adam turned on the propane heater and we quickly heated up to 70F inside. He also made the coffee and breakfast:

We simply did not bring enough bottles of propane for our little heater. We managed to make a reservation in the RV park here at Grand Canyon. They've got full hook-ups. Not as scenic, but we will have unlimited electricity, yay!
Before we moved, we left the park to fill our RV propane tank. There is an RV park right outside of the entrance to the park that will fill your propane tank. Ours is built-in so we cannot use the propane exchange in the park. The owners also allowed us to do a load of laundry AND take a pay shower ($8/ 16 min shower.)

The showers and laundry were both closed within the Grand Canyon park. We do have a little shower in our RV but it is a little small so we indulged in a full sized shower.
So we were in a parking lot outside of the Grand Canyon park when we saw this:

Wow! Michigan plates. Bad day for that guy.

Anyway, back into the park and our new campsite with electric, water and sewer hookups. Not quite as scenic as the Mather campground. We cannot connect to the water or sewer because the temps have been below freezing and pipes would burst. We we will hook up for short periods when the temps are above freezing. We've been hunkered down ever since. We watched a few movies and relaxed. Supposed to start snowing soon. It's 5:30pm and the outside temp is down to 41F. Inside temp is 74F (electric heater!.)
