Iowa and into Minnesota. Another day of driving the back roads. More rain off and on. More corn. Lots of corn. We also saw a few wheat fields. Adam and I both, on different occasions, saw what looked like pelicans. Could they be in this area? Sure looked like it. I came pretty close to hitting three fawns standing to the side of the highway in my lane. They ran as we approached, luckily I was able to avoid all three. Didn't see the mom deer. I also saw a pheasant with it's long colorful tail near the side of the road and I saw a field of at least 10 wild turkeys.
Avoiding the interstates brings you through quiet rural areas. Literally, I could go for 10 minutes without seeing any other car. Perfect for someone like me that's terrified of driving after an accident last year. On the other hand, we have been driving through many small towns so filling up with gas doesn't take us off our route at all.
Almost forgot, we had our first "automotive issue." One of our tail lights burned out. The next little town had an Autozone and we were quickly back in business.

10 am, dark clouds ahead. Quite a few rain showers. Still dry as a bone in our cozy little motorhome.

We drove through Winnebago, Minnesota.

New Ulm, MN, we stopped for some German lunch

There's Winnefred, off to the left, at the Wagner Park Campground. $30/night with full hook-ups. It seems like quite a few counties have these campgrounds at reasonable rates. You can see them as we drive through. Not a lot of extra amenities, but very clean, comfortable and affordable.

What's a "Whistling Iowegen?" We have it on good authority... When certain people from Iowa drive up to Minnesota. They look at what they perceive to be the high prices in Minnesota and they let out a long whistle. There you have it, the Whistling Iowegens (or Iowans)
